The University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences. The University seeks an accomplished teacher and academic leader who desires to contribute actively to the advancement of Catholic higher education and to the Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.
The Associate Dean serves as a faculty leader within the School of Arts & Sciences and assists the Dean in cultivating an academic community marked by intellectual seriousness, excellent teaching, faculty mentorship, genuine collegiality, and a shared commitment to the formation of students. The position calls for someone who sees academic administration not simply as the management of programs, but as service to faculty, students, the university community, and the larger mission of Catholic higher education.
Working closely with the Dean, department and program leaders, faculty, and other university offices, the Associate Dean will:
  • Provide academic and administrative leadership for assigned programs;
  • Mentor and support faculty in their teaching, scholarship, professional development, and service;
  • Assist with academic planning, program development, assessment, enrollment, and institutional governance;
  • Help foster a strong culture of collaboration, excellence, hospitality, and shared responsibility within the School;
  • Provide leadership for university-wide academic initiatives housed within Arts & Sciences;
  • Support the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae and the University’s Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine identity;
  • Teach regularly within his or her academic discipline.
Strong candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of Catholic higher education, possess sound prudential judgment, interpersonal maturity, and the ability to lead through collaboration and service. Candidates should have significant teaching experience in higher education, demonstrated potential or experience in academic leadership, and the ability to mentor faculty and work effectively across academic disciplines and university constituencies.
  An earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in a humanities or related discipline represented   within the School of Arts & Sciences is required. Previous experience in academic administration,   institutional governance, program leadership, or related forms of academic service is strongly   preferred.
