Reference Librarian
The University of Mary is seeking a full-time Reference Librarian for the Welder Library, located on our main campus in Bismarck, ND. The Reference Librarian staffs the reference desk, does classroom instruction in the usage of Library resources, and creates and maintains LibGuides and citation guides for the various programs on campus.
Candidates will be invited to demonstrate a willingness to support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:
- Reference: Managing reference activities including staffing the reference desk and guiding students, faculty, and staff in the use of the library’s physical and electronic collections; teach graduate and undergraduate students research strategies specific to their academic discipline. Design instructional handouts and videos for databases, ILL, printing etc.
- Information Literacy: Creating/maintaining LibGuides, and citation guides, demonstrate how to best utilize the Library's physical and electronic collections, teach students and faculty research strategies and ethical research concepts.
- Other Duties: Maintain a regular cycle of campus-wide posters and emails advertising library resources. Create and maintain signage for the library.
Desired Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience include:
- Required: Master's degree, preferred MLIS
- Appropriate formal training or equivalent work experience in a library environment
- Upholds and supports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
- Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
- Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Academic Affairs and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with library, campus, and community members
- Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects and establish priorities
- Ability to conduct research and develop solutions to assigned problems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong public speaking skills
- Ability to manage data, documents, and other information locally and via online networks
